Just a few little notes about what’s on my playlist, my nightstand, and my stove these days.
On my playlist: I listened to an interview with Jesse Browner on The Good Life Project podcast last week. Browner, a novelist, was talking about his recently released memoir HOW DID I GET HERE? The book is his reflection on his decision to leave the Bohemian lifestyle of Alphabet City in the 1980’s (think, RENT) and take a government job. It’s about how he questioned for years whether he would have been more creative and productive as an author had he not taken the “day job” and how he has finally made peace with his decision. This is something I think about all the time and his wisdom and insight helped me see some of my own choices from a different perspective. Pretty sure this is one I’ll need to listen to again. And maybe again.
On my nightstand: I just found out that I’ll be moderating a panel at my local writer’s 
conference (the fabulous James River Writers Conference) all about writing romantic fiction, so I’m diving into Maya Rodale’s DANGEROUS BOOKS FOR GIRLS for a little history of the romance genre. Also a super appropriate read as many of my friends make their way to San Diego for the Romance Writers of America (RWA) national conference– because reading about the genre is just like hanging out with the awesome folks who write the books, right?
On my stove: Boka Dushi, aka, Dutch West Indian Chicken Kebabs. And if the chicken wasn’t delicious enough with it’s little crispy blackened edges, the peanut sauce that was suggested to accompany it was amazing. Cous cous and edamame made nice side dishes. Conversely, you could just pile all of it all in a bowl and smother it in that sauce. (Did I mention I liked the sauce?)
