The Top 3 Songs on my Playlist (Today)

music quote

A friend of mine recently wrote a poignant Facebook post about a song that really speaks to her.  It got me thinking about some of my own favorites and I realized that I really haven’t written much about music here.  This seems odd to me, since it’s a huge part of my life. I started thinking about all the music I love and trying to come up with a clever way to present it.  Maybe my favorite songs of all time?  Or I could organize it by decade, or style, or the age I was when I fell in love with that one song in particular?  In thinking about it all I realized why I don’t write about music — it’s daunting.  Too many things I love and too many reasons I love them.

So instead I’ve decided to simply share the three  songs that I find myself playing over and over recently:

Amos Lee – Windows Are Rolled Down: I heard this song for the first time several years ago on a plane.  I was on a flight to England to spend a week with a dear friend and was writing a paper for grad school in transit so I wouldn’t have to work while I was there.  I’m forever indebted to Amos for keeping me awake and keeping my fingers flying across the keys.

Counting Crows – Anna Begins: In every possible list of music I could possibly think to pull together, something by Counting Crows would show up.  I simply can’t imagine a soundtrack to my life without them.  One of their songs is always on heavy rotation, this week it’s this one.

Fitz & The Tantrums – Break the Walls: I saw these guys in concert recently.  It was an amazing high-energy show, this song totally captures that energy.  Almost better than a cup of coffee in the morning.  Almost.

*Oh, and in case you’re curious, the song my friend wrote about was Mumford and Son’s, Ghosts That We Knew. (thanks, Lexy)

I would love to know what’s at the top of your playlist this week.  Please share in the comments below.

  1. It’s so much fun seeing other people’s playlists. My top 3 this week has been “I Can’t Get Next to You” (Al Green), “The Sky is Crying” (Eric Clapton), and “It Don’t Come Easy” (Bettye Lavette). It’s heavily influenced by what I’m writing (ie the angsty, uncertain start of a book).
